Traveling Into the Future

Camp | Grades 3-8

This camp will immerse students in the expansive world of Minecraft, and will challenge student’s ingenuity and problem solving skills as they navigate through several engineering challenges. Students will learn how to use teamwork and manage resources like an engineer in the real world. Building in Minecraft allows students to experiment with designs and materials, all without the risks associated with building structures in reality.

Surviving in Minecraft

In order for students to survive in Minecraft, they must know the basics of movement, mining, building, crafting, and perhaps the most important of all, teamwork. To survive the imminent catastrophe, student teams will scout out an area to build their own shelters, working together to gather the necessary resources and engineering new structures.

Island Hopping

Students will split into teams and use various structural engineering techniques to plan, design and build a bridge within a customized Minecraft world. Teams will be forced to gather their resources and decide on the most efficient design for a bridge. Building will also be a challenge, as the bridge will spa high above a body of water. Students will learn the challenges and obstacles involved with bridge construction.

Dry Times

After having to survive on a series of small islands, students engineering teams will be transported to a part of the planet where there is a very limited water supply, and the agricultural needs are enormous. Working together to maximize their productivity, students will design engineering solutions and build structures and devices that will feed the growing agricultural needs of their community.

Escape from Everest

Students wake up from a 200 year sleep under the summit of Mt. Everest, now the only dry place on earth. Students will work together to discover why they are there, and what needs to be done to signal the human race, who has long since evacuated earth to head to the stars. Students will balance the needs of the ecosystem while engineering a way to build a rocket to signal humans in space. Teamwork and planning are the keys to help the human race.

Colonize the Moon

Students arrive on another part of the planet, and are tasked with being the first group to colonize the moon. Currently, the technology only exists to carry one person at a time to the moon, so each student will build their own rocket. Once on the moon, students will colonize by planting their flags, building homes and infrastructure and even building a space station.
